Set up Bar Codes
When you are using bar codes, you need to define the separator between bar code data fields, and the details for pre-printed bar codes.
The Pre-Printed fields indicate what is included in a pre-printed bar code, and are also used to identify a bar code when it is scanned.
Important
You need to set up your hand-help scanner so that it inserts separators when scanning. The separator that was set on the scanner needs to be entered in the GS1 Separator Character (Unicode) field.
To set up GS1 weights
You need to set up a specific weight type on the Units of Measure page, which allows GS1 weight parsing to identify which UOMs are pounds and kilograms.
Choose the Search icon, enter Units of Measure, and then choose the related link.
On the Home tab, choose Edit List.
For the unit of measure that represents kilograms, select Kilogram from the Specific Weight Type field.
For the unit of measure that represents pounds, select Pounds from the Specific Weight Type field.
Close the page.
To set up bar codes
Choose the Search icon, enter Bar Code Setup, and then choose the related link.
In the GS1 Separator Character (Unicode) field, enter the unicode that represents the separator that was defined on the scanner.
Note
Do not set the separator to a character that might be found in the bar code.
In the Pre-Printed Bar Code Type field, select the bar code type that will be the default when opening the Pre-Print Bar Code Labels report.
GUID: Prints a 36-character (or less depending on the data values) bar code.
Condensed GUID: Prints a 22-character bar code, which is a condensed version of the GUID.
No. Series: Prints a bar code based on the number series selected in the Pre-Print Bar Code No. Series field. When this value is selected, you need to enter values in the Pre-Print Bar Code No. Series, No. Series Bar Code Length, and No. Series Prefix Identifier. When generating a pre-printed number series bar code, JustFood selects the next number in the number series, adds the prefix identifier, and if Append No. Series Checksum is selected, adds the checksum digit to the end of the bar code.
If you selected No. Series for the Pre-Printed Bar Code Type field, enter information in the following fields:
Pre-Printed Bar Code No. Series: Select the number series to be used when generating pre-printed bar codes. When the number series is used, this number will be incremented each time a pre-printed bar code is created.
No. Series Bar Code Length: Enter the length of the bar code. The length needs to be the same as the number of characters in the number series selected for the Pre-Printed Bar Code No. Series field. The length does not include the prefix or check sum. The length is used to help identify the bar code when it is scanned.
No. Series Prefix Identifier: Enter the prefix that will be added to the beginning of the number series. The prefix is used to help identify the bar code when it is scanned. A double-digit prefix starting with 5 or 6 is suggested since no application identifiers start with those numbers.
Append No. Series Checksum: Select the check box to add a checksum to the end of the number series. The checksum is used to help identify the bar code when it is scanned. The checksum is a digit that verifies that the data was correct. The checksum is calculated based on the weighted sum of the digits in the bar code.
