Variable Weight

Variable weight is part of inventory management, and is used for items that are purchased, manufactured and sold in discreet units (for example, CASE or BOX) but where each unit has a variable weight and is therefore priced by weight.

A variable weight item’s base unit of measure (UOM) is a non-weight unit such as CASE. JustFood uses serial numbers and lot numbers in order to track the variable weights. The JustFood variable weight functionality allows you to do the following:

• Distribute purchased and sold items' costs proportionally by weight.

• Distribute item charges proportionally by weight.

• Show variable weight quantities for production orders.

• Enter a weight tolerance percentage for variable weight items.

The way variable weight works depends on how a company uses variable weight. Variable weight can be set up in four different ways:

• Serial Everywhere: The specific case weights are recorded for all transactions using serial numbers.

• Lot Everywhere: The total number of cases and the total weight of the cases are recorded for all transactions using lot numbers.

• Lot In, Serial Out: The total number of cases and the total weight of the cases are recorded for INBOUND and MOVE transactions using lot numbers. Specific case weights are recorded on OUTBOUND transactions using serial numbers.

• Serial In, Serial Out: Specific cases and total weights are recorded on INBOUND and OUTBOUND transactions using serial numbers. The total number of cases and the total weight of the cases are recorded for MOVE transactions using lot numbers.
