Walkthrough: Process a Production Order for Variable Weight-Lot Everywhere Items
This walkthrough demonstrates how to process a production order for variable weight items in the Lot Everywhere scenario.
When using the Lot Everywhere scenario, the total weight of all cases for a specific lot is posted for all INBOUND, MOVE, and OUTBOUND transactions. The item ledger entries, and warehouse entries record a transaction for each lot number.
When using the Lot Everywhere scenario for variable weight, the total weight is assigned to the entire lot instead of individual cases.
About This Walkthrough
This walkthrough demonstrates the following tasks:
Create an Item Tracking Code
Create a Variable Weight Item
Create a Variable Weight Production Order
Register a Warehouse Pick
Consume Raw Materials and Output a Finished Good
Prerequisites
On the No. Series page, lot number series have been defined.
On the Units of Measure page, units of measure have been defined.
On the Item Categories page, an item category has been defined.
Routing number and production BOM numbers have been created. The routing number and production BOM numbers are used for the new variable weight item.
Variable weight surcharges have been set up. For more information, see Set up Variable Weight Surcharges
For non-directed picks and put-aways, a warehouse location has been set up. For more information, see Walkthrough: Set Up a Warehouse Location with Non-Directed Picks and Put-Aways.
The employee that is performing the steps in this walkthrough has been set up as a warehouse employee for the SEATTLE location.
Story
The JF Company purchases and receives bulk meat items, and then manufactures cases of sausage. The cases of sausage are sold by weight.
The SEATTLE location has been set up as a warehouse that uses non-directed picks and put-aways. At the Seattle location, cases of Italian sausage (VW-LOTE-FG-ITAL_SAUS) are going to be manufactured using purchased bulk ground beef (VW-LOTE-BEEF_GROUND) and bulk ground pork (VW-LOTE-PORK_GROUND). The bulk ground beef and bulk ground pork are both variable weight items and have associated weights.
Each case of the Italian sausage (VW-LOTE-FG-ITAL_SAUS) is expected to weigh 25 pounds. When 2 cases of Italian sausages are manufactured, the actual total weight of the cases ends up being 49.6 pounds.
Creating an Item Tracking Code
Before you create a variable weight item for the Lot Everywhere scenario, you must create an Item Tracking Code.
To create an item tracking code
Choose , enter item tracking codes, and then choose the related link.
The Item Tracking Codes page opens.
On the action bar, choose New.
The Item Tracking Code Card page opens.
On the General FastTab, perform the following steps:
In the Code field, enter VW-S2-LOTE.
In the Description field, enter Variable Weight Scenario 2 Lot Everywhere.
On the Serial No. FastTab, turn off all fields.
On the Lot No. FastTab, except for the Lot No. Info Must Exist fields, turn on all fields.
On the Misc. FastTab, turn on Variable Weight Tracking.
Create a Variable Weight Item
A variable weight item must be created for the manufactured Italian sausage (VW-LOTE-FG-ITAL_SAUS). The manufactured sausage is expected to weigh 25 pounds per case.
To create a variable weight item
Choose , enter items, and then choose the related link.
The Items page opens.
On the action bar, choose New.
The Item Card page opens.
On the General FastTab, perform the following steps:
In the No. field, enter VW-LOTE-FG-ITAL_SAUS.
In the Description field, enter Italian Sausage.
In the Item Category Code field, select FG.
To create the item's Units of Measure (UOM), perform the following steps:
On the action bar, choose Navigate > Item > Units of Measure.
The Item Units of Measure page opens.
Add the following records:
Code Qt. per Base UOM Weight CASE 1 25 LBS 25 1 On the Current Base Unit of Measure FastTab, in the Base Unit of Measure field, select CASE.
To return to the Item Card page, choose .
On the General FastTab, the Base Unit of Measure field is populated with CASE.
On the Costs & Posting FastTab, in the Costing Method field, select FIFO.
On the Prices & Sales FastTab, perform the following steps:
In the Sales Price Unit of Measure Code field, select LBS.
In the Purchase Price Unit of Measure field, select LBS.
On the Replenishment FastTab, perform the following steps:
In the Replenishment System field, select Prod. Order.
In the Routing No. field, select VW-LOTE-FG-ITAL_SAUS.
In the Production BOM No. field, select VW-LOTE-FG-ITAL_SAUS.
On the Item Tracking FastTab, perform the following steps:
In the Item Tracking Code field, select VW-S2-LOTE.
In the Lot Nos. field, select LOT.
In the Expiration Calculation field, enter 6M.
On the action bar, choose Actions > Functions > Weight > Calculate Net Weight.
On the Inventory FastTab, the Net Weight field is populated. The net weight is calculated based on the defined units of measure. The net weight flows to document lines, such as for sales, picks, and warehouse entries.
Create a Variable Weight Production Order
After you have created a variable weight item, you can create a variable weight production order.
To create a variable weight production order
Choose , enter released production orders, and then choose the related link.
The Released Production Orders page opens.
On the action bar, choose New.
The Released Production Order page opens.
On the General FastTab, perform the following steps:
In the Source No. field, select VW-LOTE-FG-ITAL_SAUS.
In the Quantity field, enter 2.
On the Posting FastTab, in the Location Code field, select SEATTLE.
On the action bar, choose Process > Refresh Production Order.
The Refresh Production Order page opens.
In the Scheduling direction field, select Forward.
Turn on all Calculate fields.
Choose OK.
On the Released Production Order page, the Lines are populated.
At this point, the Net Weight Finished field is not populated.
Register a Warehouse Pick
After a released production order has been created, a warehouse pick can be registered. The warehouse pick determines from where to pick the items. Because the ground beef and ground pork are variable weight items, the total weight of the cases must be entered.
To register the warehouse pick
Choose , enter released production orders, and then choose the related link.
The Released Production Orders page opens.
Select the released production order that was created for the variable weight item, and then on the action bar, choose Manage > View.
The Released Production Order page opens.
On the action bar, choose Actions > Warehouse > Create Whse. Pick.

On the action bar, choose Process > Show Document.
The Warehouse Pick page opens. The items that are required to make the finished good are listed with their lot numbers.
The Net Weight fields are not populated.
